Fountain City UMC June 14-18

At Christian Care Communities, Fountain City UMC primed and started painting a giant window well mural in the front of

CCC along 5th Street. The mural is going to be a garden of eden scene, mountains, the parting of the Red Sea, an Egyptian

village, and a bunch of blocks to look like pyramids.

The pyramids have hieroglyphics that spell out a secret code! They also worked to prime and paint an old dingy stairwell

that is so ugly that the residents won't use it.  Now that it is getting some love it is more open and inviting for the folks at

CCC to get more exercise instead of the elevators. All the while the youth spent time inside doing relational activities with

the residents.

At the Salvation Army Center of Hope, FCUMC primed and painted the outside of their men's shelter, alongside the help of

some of the homeless clients. They built three 8' x 4' garden boxes out of cedar that the folks at Salvation Army can use to

grow vegetables for their kitchen. Chef Tim, who has worked at 5-star restaurants, runs the Salvation Army kitchen and an

apprenticeship program. He teaches people how to cook using fresh ingredients so that they are able get a secure job at

fancy restaurants.

Immanuel UMC, June 28 - July 2

This week Immanuel UMC made Louisville a better place! They worked hard with Nathan at the Salvation Army to continue

putting together the vegetable garden boxes, so that our total for the summer is up to 8 finished boxes! Nathan's team was

especially flexible, going to the EDGE shoe warehouse to sort shoes one day and to Refuge in Kentucky Church to finish a

painting project another day.

Beth's crew at Christian Care Communities made great progress on the mural and nearly finished painting the stairwell, too!

In addition to spending time doing activities with the residents, the team also painted the patios on several floors so that

the residents at CCC will be more encouraged to spend time outside.

Natalie's crew wasn't afraid to get dirty at Portland Promise Center! They worked all week to clean up the floors and walls

in a warehouse PPC is remodeling and also took down a bunch of old lighting and removed some heavy beams.

Melissa oversaw the team at LAMP Life Centered Ministries, where they planted 85 boxwood bushes at their community

garden and then built an arbor in 2 1/2 days!
